De Blasio's Speech Analysis
The Mayor of New York City, Bill De Blasio, delivered a touching eulogy speech for a dead NYPD officer at the officer's funeral. The officer was murdered by men who were attempting to avenge the death of Eric Garner; some of the members of the NYPD who observed De Blasio's eulogy speech turned their back in the means of disrespect, because they believe he isn't showing enough support for the dead NYPD officers. Taking into consideration that De Blasio was a previous chief of the NYPD; these irrational beliefs derived primarily from the fact that De Blasio told his biracial son to be respectful and not rebellious to police officers, if ever confronted. Throughout De Blasio's speech, he used multiple types of rhetorical strategies to convince the audience that he truly cared about the dead officer. Some of the strategies used include, his appeal to pathos by quivering his voice and speaking in a tone that doesn't appear to be spiteful or malicious, and also his use of anaphoras during his eulogy.
